About Us

Mission

Friends of Karen’s mission is to provide emotional, financial, and advocacy support for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, in order to help keep them stable, functioning, and able to cope.

Since our founding in 1978, we served over 4,000 children and their families. When siblings are counted we have touched the lives of over 10,000 children.

Friends of Karen offers its services regardless of race, color, creed, sex or handicap in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

 

Who We Serve

Area Map Friends of Karen serves children from birth to 21 years of age who are diagnosed with cancer and any life-threatening illness, U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and who live in the New York metropolitan area, including:

  • New York City:  Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island;
  • Long Island counties:  Nassau and Suffolk
  • Northern New York counties:  Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Sullivan, Ulster and Orange
  • Northern New Jersey counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union and Passaic
  • Connecticut counties: Fairfield, Middlesex and New Haven
